Dr Rochelle Smith: Clinical Sports Advisor
Dr Rochelle Smith is a Medical Doctor with a special interest in Neurology and traumatic brain injury.
Dr Smith’s interest stems from her extensive sporting background in Rugby Union where she has represented both England and then Jamaica over a ten year period, playing a variety of different versions of the game from 15’s to 7’s. Over this period Dr Smith has bared witness to other players acquiring brain injuries through this contact sport. This sparked her interest in brain related injuries related to this sport.
Dr Smith Graduated as the Valedictorian of the Faculty of Medical Sciences from University of the West Indies in Jamaica. She Graduated with Honours in all three Medical Disciplines and won a number of awards for her Academic Performance in the Caribbean Region.
Dr Smith spent two years working in Jamaica and has experience of traumatic brain injury whilst working for the Neurosurgical team at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Upon moving back to the UK Dr Smith began working at St. George’s Hospital interacting with Dr Colette Griffin and her traumatic brain injury service. This service allowed her exposure to acute brain injury management and specialist neurorehabilitation. Through this she was able to appreciate the complexities of brain injury and the impact it has on both patients and their families.
Dr Smith looks forward to working with GNC Neurology as a Clinical Sports Advisor blending her love for Rugby and for Neurology.
