Dr Colette Griffin MBBS MD FRCP: Medical Director and Senior Consultant Neurologist

Dr Colette Griffin is a Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in traumatic brain injury.

Dr Griffin has developed a comprehensive private traumatic brain injury service. This has been built over the last ten years both on an outpatient basis and an inpatient basis.

Dr Griffin’s interest in sport (she is a keen sailor and skier and also follows her local rugby team) has led her to develop a sub-specialist interest in the field of mild TBI in sport. Non specialists refer to mild TBI as “concussion.” Dr Griffin regularly reviews patients who have sustained a mild TBI and also sports players concerned regarding the impact of repeated mild TBIs.

She developed the clinical neurorehabilitation services and inpatient complex multi-disciplinary TBI service at Ascot Rehabilitation and was responsible for the running of this service between 2012 and 2019. Dr Griffin led the inpatient TBI neurorehabilitation team. This service has won numerous awards, both nationally and internationally.

Dr Griffin also runs a busy traumatic brain injury service at St George’s Hospital Major Trauma Centre. The dedicated traumatic brain injury beds on the unit consist both of acute access beds and level one specialist neurorehabilitation beds. This enables seamless care of patients from NITU through their acute and neurorehabilitation pathway, through to home and includes community and vocational rehabilitation services.

Dr Griffin is involved in education and teaching. She regularly teaches healthcare professionals, medical and post graduate students, in addition to other neurology consultants. She has developed the TBI curriculum for neurologists in training.

Dr Griffin undertook placements at both Harvard Medical School (Brigham and Women’s Hospital) and The Mayo Clinic during her undergraduate training.

Dr Griffin undertook her neurological training at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, The Royal London Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital.

Dr Griffin was awarded her MD by The University of London in the use of advanced MRI techniques in Multiple Sclerosis. She has published over thirty peer reviewed papers and two invited book chapters.

She is involved in multiple TBI research studies. Her academic interest is in the field of advanced MRI techniques and their ability to provide prognostic information in TBI.

Dr Griffin is regularly invited to lecture both nationally and internationally.

Dr Griffin taught advocacy at The Bar for both The South East Circuit and The Inner Temple advocacy courses for a decade until 2014.

She is the expert witness in The Inner Temple “How to cross examine an Expert Witness” training DVD.
